Open Sessions:FAQ

Who can contribute and participate?

You do not need to be a club member or regular to organize or participate in a session. The sessions are explicitly non-professional and casual, so contributions from everyone are welcome.

What topics are allowed?

Any topic is generally allowed. Topics should align with the ethical and philosophical standards of Entropia and the greater Chaos community. We value diversity, inclusivity, openness and the hacker ethos. For inspiration check the list of past events.

What formats are possible?

Any format is possible such as:

• talks
• workshops
• open barcamps
• demos
• hackathons (or at least short ones)
• round-table discussions
• ...

How long can sessions be?

It depends.

An evening talk in the main room on a Friday, Saturday or Sunday (the busy times) should take less than 45min (up to 60min with questions).

Other days, times and rooms are much more flexible. For example, a workshop from noon to afternoon on a Saturday may occupy the main room for multiple hours. Blocking the side room (capacity of around 10 beings) for sessions should be possible for most durations and times of day.

When do sessions occur?

Sessions are generally possible whenever, but we recommend evenings and weekends, since that is when you will get an audience or participants. We announce sessions typically a week ahead via our mailing list and public Matrix channel.

How can I contribute?

Contact anyone from the Open Sessions team. Currently these are

We will ensure you get a slot that does not conflict with any other event or session. Ensure you have the equipment and space, you will need. And finally announce your session to the public.

What did I hear about food?

We like to cook and eat at Entropia and we have many talented cooks. Our food is usually vegan, cooked by volunteers and funded via donations to the volunteers. Typically, we will send a list with our announcements, where you can register your interest in a portion of said food.

Are the talks recorded or streamed?

Currently, we operate fully offline. This has two reasons:

1. we are in an early phase of the project and have not gotten around to setting this up,
2. we are intentionally non-professional to ensure a low barrier of entry making it easy for beings to have their potentially first talk in a safe space.
