The trolls are all of the friendly helpers on the GPN - there cannot be a GPN without them.
General informations
First and foremost, thanks for your interest in helping out and making the GPN possible!
On a huge event that is entirely organized by unpaid voluntary workers like the GPN, there's a lot to be done. That's why we organize the flood of tasks into specific jobs, and separate each job in shifts. To make it easily accessible, it's all digitalized too.
The system where we organize giving a hand is the well-known Angel system that is used in many chaos events - or, as we like to call it here, the Troll system. You can register on there, and then register for shifts for different jobs. There are many ways and opportunities to help, from the bar to the info desk. The different jobs are described further below.
Who can troll?
There are no requirements to be able to troll, everyone is welcome to lend a hand!
For some special shifts or jobs, an introductory formation or additional requirements might be needed be needed. If you want to help with one of them, we will have a small meetup where we will give you the formation and/or verify you meet requirements. After that, your account will be given the permissions to register for these shifts and jobs. You will be able to find the schedule for these introductory meetups in the troll system.

If you're already registered for a shift, just come to the Trolldesk and we will explain anything you need to know and get you on your way to help! If something is unclear or you have any additional questions, the Metatroll is here to help! They're also reachable over DECT via 8765 (TROL).
What to bring
Plese bring a DECT phone and set it up before starting to troll. More info about DECT phones.
It would be nice if you could bring your own lanyard for your badge, but if needed, we also have some on-site.
Trolling opportunities
Here is a list of all the different jobs where you can offer your help. This overview might not correspond exactly to the exact shifts in the troll system: For more detailed info, check the descriptions in the troll system.
Setup
The event setup begins on the Wednesday before the GPN (this year, the 18th June) at 10:00AM. On this day, heavy stuff will be transported and setup, like building the bar, putting the tables in place, etc. Therefore, if you want to help, please come with long pants and closed shoes, and if possible bring safety gloves, to keep yourself safe from potential injuries.
We still need to continue the setup Thursday from 10:00AM as well. We need lots of help to be able to get the event started in time!

Teardown
Everything that was setup needs to be torn down agin on Sunday. After the closing presentation, we'll need a lot of helping hands to bring back the event place to it's original state. Any help is welcome and will be rewarded with pizza :p

Info desk
- At the info desk, we respond to questions and collect donations.
- The info desk is where everyone comes for general questions and problems. It's also possible to print there.
- We have a box for donations.
- We keep a tally of donations. For every donation, we draw a line of the tally.
- Everyone can donate as much and as many time as they want. We recommend a donation of 42€ per person.
- If no one comes to take over at the end of your shift, please give the donations box to someone with a key to the organisers' room, to lock the box there.

Merch desk
- We sell T-Shirts, Cups and Hoodies.
- Until Saturday afternoon, we only sell merch to people who reserved some; onwards, we sell the rest of the stock publicly.

Bar
The bar sells drinks, snacks, and (during the evening & night) Tschunk. We need help to keep things running smoothly! Learn more about what we do at GPN:Howto/Bar.

Food
Breakfast
The GPN offers a Self-Service breakfast every morning, which needs to be prepared and refilled by Breakfast trolls. We tear the breakfast down after we run out of bread.
- Tasks: Fetch food, Setup tables, Prepare and Refill a "Buffet", teardown.

Goulash/Kitchen
We will once again provide goulash and other delicacies, although the grand cuttening will precede all of that. The perfect job for trolls with culinary tendencies and the ability to hold a knife without freaking out. A hygiene formation will be held.

WOC
The Waffle Operation Center is responsible for a rich waffel supply at the GPN. Here, we mix dough and cook waffles. A hygiene formation will be held.

Troll desk
At the troll desk, you help trolls to register in the troll system, distribute vouchers and goodies to good trolls, and relay demand for trolls. Do not fret - The Metatroll will stand by your side.

Springer/Backup Troll
For this type of shift, you just wait until something happens somewhere that causes a spontaneous need for trolls for misc. tasks, for example helping getting an arrival of beverages out of the truck. When your help will be needed, we'll give you a call and tell you where to head to. You will need to have a DECT phone, and to be reachable on it during your entire shift. Please give a heads up at the troll desk at the beginning of your shift to let us know you're here.

Talks & Workshops
Lecture Room Operations
Oh no! The storm of visitors is heading right towards the presentation room, but its already filled to the brim! It's time for the Lecture Room Operations Troll to step in and prevent the room from getting overfilled. Everyone gets an assigned seat, emergency pathways need to be kept clear, and people without a seat need to be sent back to the hackcenter, where they can watch the live stream of the presentation. Ensure the visitors respect the lecture rooms maximal capacity with diplomacy but still rigidly to ensure the safety of everyone.

Video
All presentations are streamed and recorded (except if the presenter explicitly requested it not be). To keep the quality of the recording optimal, we need some video trolls. Your task will be to keep the volume levels balanced, and the compositing of the presentation's slides with the video feed. You do not need prior experience, although that would be very useful to have.
We will have a video troll meetup to bring everyone up to speed on how to use our system. The schedule for the meetups will be visible in the troll system.

Heralding
We make public announcements, we give a short introduction to the next presentation and the person presenting it, and we do moderation for Q&A sessions after presentations. It will all happen in either German or English, depending on the language of the presentation.

Maintenance and Cleaning
Armed with yet to be filled plastic bags and mate crates, the maintenance trolls scour the event location, on a quest to steal the trash left around.
We principally handle and prevent trash bin overflows and OutOfPaperTowel. We give out trash bags to groups and visitors who need them. We collect empty bottles at strategic places to avoid them even having a chance of turning into a glass shards carpet. We help all visitors to keep the space clean.

Signage
We make signs, we print them, and we hang them up.

NOC
We set the internet connection up, we help visitors with setting up their internet access, and in the end we tear it back down.

We handle medical help, Awareness, fire protection, emergencies, etc. To be part of us, specific prerequisite knowledge is necessary.
Getting trolled

Spontaneous troll needs:
- Have a chat with the Metatroll. Convince them about the utter importance of your project and of a post-haste dispatch of reserve trolls for its sake.
- Wait for the trolls to be delivered.
- Explain carefully to the trolls what they need to do.
- Please return the trolls undamaged after usage.
Planned troll needs:
- Get in touch as early as you can with the Metatroll. Give them a time and a troll collection point.
- Go collect the trolls at the agreed upon time at the troll collection point.
- Explain again to the trolls what they need to do.
- Please return the trolls undamaged after usage.
