Registration and the Goulash Delicacy Pack
How do I register? Do I need a ticket?
As you might've already noticed, in the last years the GPN has gotten a bit cramped. After talking it over with our hosts, we're sorry to announce that we'll be forced to limit the amount of people allowed to enter the event building. If you're planning to be present for every day of the GPN, you will need to sign up for the event in advance. We do have a small stock of daily tickets that we're going to be giving out at the event entry for passerbys and folks who couldn't grab a reservation, but their amount is very limited and they only allow entry for a single day. Therefore, unlike all of the previous GPNs until now, you will need to sign up in advance if you want your admission into the event building to be guaranteed throughout the event duration.
We do not offer tickets in the way you might think, as we care about keeping the entry to the event free. When registering, you will need to pay 10€ for a Goulash Delicacy Pack, a coupon that gets you a warm meal (or 3 waffles) and a free non-alcoholic beverage - things that you'll probably want to get yourself on the GPN anyways. Thereby, we have a way to limit mass registration while only having you pay for some food, not for the entry, which can remain free.
If you want to visit the GPN but cannot buy a Goulash Delicacy Pack, please reach out to friends@gulas.ch.
Please understand that the price exclusively pays for the contents of the delicacy pack, it does not pay your entry and we make no profit off of it. It does not replace your donations, which we still require to keep the event running. We recommend a donation amount of at least 56 €. If you are in capacity of donating more, your higher donation allows less fortunate people to continue participating - and making the GPN what it is.
Starting this year, it's possible to make a donation on the registration website while reserving merch or buying a goulash delicacy pack.
Wtf? Why do I need this Goulash Delicacy Pack to register?
We have been aware that the last GPNs have been getting too cramped, and after discussion with our hosts, it became clear that we have to heavily limit the amount of visitors to keep the GPN safe and comfortable.
Since we need to strongly reduce our amount of indoor participants, we're forced to require registration for entry. However, while a free registration in limited supply is a recipe for disaster, we really care about keeping entry to the event fully free. To avoid people booking more than what they need, scalpers reselling our registrations, people half-heartedly booking and not freeing the reservation upon deciding they won't come after all, etc, we had to put up some kind of price still. Therefore, starting this year, event registrations are going to be linked to the acquisition of a Goulash Delicacy Pack valued at 10€, which includes a delicious warm meal (or 3 waffles if goulash's not your thing) prepared freshly just for you by our voluntary staff's delicate little hands, and a non-alcoholic drink at our bar.
We hope the pack's value will encourage people who cannot come to the event after all to ask for a refund, thereby releasing their registration to be claimed by another potential visitor. Until the start of the event, all delicacy packs will be fully refunded.
We still refuse to gatekeep the event by money, and will continue our commitment of not making the entry paid.
I'm coming from further away to visit the GPN. Do I need to register?
Yes. Day Passes are meant for visitors who only plan to pass by for a single day or shortly. We really want to avoid having to deny you entry and shoo you away after having you make the long trip all the way here. Please only plan your travel once you have a definitive registration.
I live in Karlsruhe and want to come by every day. Should I register?
We heavily recommend it. If you are not registered, you probably will be denied entry during the event.
I'm a local who can only come for a single day. Should I register?
The Day Passes are ideal for you, we recommend you make use of one. Please keep in mind the Day Pass amounts are also limited.
Do I need a registration for the outdoors area of the event?
No, the outdoors area around the event building are open to everyone without registration.
Where can I find Day Passes?
At the event's location outdoors area.
How can I tell whether you still have Day Passes available?
We communicate the amount of remaining Day Passes via a traffic lights system (Green, Yellow, Red). Green means that we still have lots of them available, Yellow means that we're running out and there may be none left by the time you get to the entrance, Red means we've officially ran out of Day Passes and entry is no longer possible without a registration.
My Talk/Workshop has been accepted. Do I still need a registration?
If you made a submission in the CfP that got accepted, you already have a guaranteed reserved spot at the GPN. The Content team will soon contact you with more information and your registration details.

Building
Our event building is a weapons fabric from WWI and a protected historical monument. Please handle the building with extra care.
To learn more about the building's story, you can find out more with the search term "Hallenbau A" and on the ZKM's website.
Merch and Donations
The Goulash Delicacy Pack does not finance the GPN. We beg of you to please offer us a "Pay what you can" donation, we recommend a 56€ gratuity. If you are in capacity of donating more, your higher donation allows less fortunate people to continue participating - and making the GPN what it is.
Starting this year, it's possible to make a donation on the registration website while reserving merch or buying a goulash delicacy pack.
If you want to donate to us, it would be much appreciated. Our banking details can be found over here. We can offer donation invoices if needed.
T-Shirts / Hoodies
The sale of T-Shirts and Hoodies help finance the GPN.
Price / Reservation
- Prices: T-Shirts 30,- €, Hoodies 60,- €, Mugs (incl. Tea & Coffee flat) 15,- €
- Reservations: You can book a reservation for merch on the the registration website. You'll then be able to collect it at the event location's merch desk strating Freitag at 12:00h, and until Saturday, 14:00h.
Merch that was not collected by then will be sold starting Saturday at 15:00h to everyone without a reservation (until supply runs out).
Public Transport event ticket
As the Deutschlandticket is expected to be very in widespread use amongst our visitors, we will not book a common ticket for all event participants this year, as the costs of such a ticket are too high compared to the amount of people that would put it to use. We'd rather invest the money in the rest of the event.
Internet / WiFi
See GPN23:NOC.
What should I bring?
- DECT-Telefon mitbringen! As usual, we host a private DECT network, which is the primary method between visitors, organizers and trolls. See GPN23:DECT for more info (we do not use eventphone, please check compatibility against our system!).
- LAN Cable (3-5m): We provide most desks with a switch with gigabit internet. You will need to bring your own CAT cable to use it.
- Power Strips: We usually do not have enough. Please bring your own.
- Server: They're welcome. We have a very good internet connection! 10GBit/s-Ports for Server are available (albeit in limited capacity), if needed please bring 2x SFP+ (Vendor doesn't matter) and ~5m fiber yourself. Please configure your server to promptly shutdown when the power button is pressed.
- Lanyard: Visitors' badges are usually hung on a lanyard. If you already have one, feel free to bring it - that way, we'll spare on resources and you won't come home with yet another one to throw onto the pile. If you do have a pile of them, feel free to bring more than one and give them to us at the info desk. We'll distribute them out to other visitors who would like a used lanyard.
Sleeping, Eating
- Sleeping: It's prohibited to sleep anywhere in the event building. You can find a list of hotels and a bed finder under GPN23:Sleeping.
- Is there any kind of shared space for visitors to take a snooze? Nope.
- Brykfyst: Will be offered on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Please throw an amount of money in the trust piggy bank relative to the amount of food you take.
- Goulash: We promise there's going to be Goulash on at least one day of the event. We exclusively cook vegan Goulash.
- Nice Cream machine, pizza ovens, waffles machines, crêpes, popcorn, slushies, etc.: If you want to hack/play with/distribute/offer/gift/sell food at the GPN, please contact us well in advance before the start of the event.
- Ordering food: Always possible, check out FAQ -> Event Location.
Misc.
- How to help? Good idea! The event runs on voluntary visitor help. You can learn all about how to help at the Troll How-To. Also check out the troll system.
- Accessibility: The event is mainly on the ground floor. You can find an elevator to the second floor at the ZKM, in front of the cinema. There are accessible toilets on the ground floor. If you notice any issue or any way we could improve the event's accessibility, please contact us ASAP. We'll attempt to eliminate any barriers before the end of the event. More on Solltest du Bedenken zur allgemeinen Barrierefreiheit unserer Veranstaltung haben, bitten wir dich, uns zu benachrichtigen. Dann können wir eventuelle Barrieren beseitigen. Read more on GPN:Accessibility.
- Kids: Kids are completely welcome at the GPN. Previous experience has shown they have no problem mixing in and participating with the other hackers.
- Animals: Because of our experiences at previous GPNs, we urge you to avoid bringing any dogs or other pets. We obviously make an exception for assistance pets.
- Smoking: It is strictly prohibited to smoke in the entirety of the building, regardless of the time. It is also not permitted to smoke in proximity of the entrances of the building.
- Longboards and other means of transportation: Because of numerous accidents and their high risk (especially for passersby), it is not allowed to make use of Lonboards, Hoverboards, Skateboards, Cars, Trains, Trams, Couches, Couch decorations, etc) in the entire GPN area.
Public Space
- Public Space: Unlike most Chaos Computer Club events, the GPN is a public event hosted in a public museum. Curious passersby may walz by, get curious and come check the event out. We welcome all outsiders and invite our visitors to engage with outside with visitors, show and explain the projects you're working on, talk to them about the GPN and your experience there, etc.
- Photos: Photos are taken at the GPN. They may be taken by visitors, by passersby, by employees of our hosts, etc. While we are OK with wide pictures that show the general vibe and ambiance of the event, or timelapse shots of the space, or generally taking pictures that try to capture things & objects rather than people, we ask you to avoid taking personal pictures to keep other visitors comfortable. Please refrain from doing close shots, portraits, or photos of groups, and ask for the permission of anyone that is very clearly visible in your shot before taking the picture. We especially ask you to never take a picture of anyone else's screen without their clear explicit consent. We do not want to and will not formally step-in if the rules are broken, but we ask that you respect these rules our of consideration still.

- Technical: For example, if the A/C is set too cold, if the internet broke, if the music is too loud, ... Always remember to notify first (call us, or have someone else call us), then take measures to fight the emergency (providing first aid, fighting the fire, ...). Try to keep yourself safe over fighting the emergency. Please follow any instructions from the organizers, security and public emergency services.

Workshops & Schedule
How/Where can I submit a proposal for a presentation/workshop/short talk/meetup?
It's possible to submit a proposal on our CfP platform until the 31th May 2025 at https://cfp.gulas.ch/gpn23/cfp
You can find the list of talks, workshops, meetups, etc. on our official schedule.
For Talks and Meetups, you only need to come by at the announced place and time and take a sit. In some cases, especially if a talk is very popular, it's possible that the room runs out of space. For safety reasons, we'll need to restrict entry to the room in advance if that comes to happen. Be early if you want to be certain you'll be able to attend it!
For most Workshops, a reservation is necessary. After booking a reservation, you need to arrive over 5 minutes before the start at the workshop place with your reservation. When there are only 5 minutes left, we'll give out the spot of no-showers to people that present themselves without a reservation. We have a small waiting space in front of each workshop room.
If you have a reservation, remember to be there over 5 minutes before the start, otherwise your entitlement to a spot will be lost.
If you cannot or do not want to come to a workshop you've reserved a spot for after all, please have the reservation cancelled. This will give more interested people an opportunity to attend.
