GPN Code of Conduct

Short Version

The Gulaschprogrammiernacht aims to provide an event free of harassment and discrimination for everyone, regardless of their gender, gender identity and expression, sexual orientation, physical and mental abilities, physical appearance, physique, looks, body size, age, ethnic, regional and/or religious affiliation or origin or socio-economic status.

Even if this goal cannot be achieved in its entirety due to social power relations, we want to work towards it.

Enforcement

Participants who are asked to refrain from harassing behaviour are expected to comply immediately.

In the event of harassing behaviour by a participant, the event organisers reserve the right to take the necessary measures to make the event a pleasant environment for all participants.

Reporting offences

If you or someone else feels unsafe or unwelcome, please contact Team safeR as soon as possible.

Harassment and other violations of the Code of Conduct disrupt the event for everyone. By reporting it, you are also helping to make the event more enjoyable for everyone.

Long version

The Gulaschprogrammiernacht aims to be an event free of harassment and discrimination for all, regardless of gender, gender identity and gender expression, sexual orientation, physical and mental abilities, physical appearance, physique, looks, body size, age, ethnic, regional and/or religious affiliation or origin or socio-economic status.

Even if this goal cannot be achieved in its entirety due to social power relations, we want to work towards it.

Unwanted behaviour

Harassment including, among other things:

  • Verbal comments that reinforce social power relations. For example in relation to: Gender, gender identity and expression, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, body size, age, ethnic, regional and/or religious affiliation or origin or socio-economic position
  • Sexual/sexualised images or sexual acts in public spaces
  • Intimidation, stalking or persecution
  • Unwanted individual recordings or portraits (image, video, sound) of other people
  • Persistent disruption of lectures, workshops or other gatherings
  • Unwanted physical contact
  • Unwanted sexualised attention (compliments, innuendos, looks, gestures, statements, actions)
  • Threats of or incitement to violence
  • Explaining or commenting on the actions of others without being asked (mansplaining, backseat driving)
  • Deliberate use of incorrect pronouns (misgendering) and self-designations or the use of disassociated names (deadnaming)
  • Initiating relationships or sexual contact by taking advantage of hardship or structural inequalities (age, social position, etc.) or with persons who are in a relationship of dependency.
  • Behaviour that endangers oneself or others
  • Advocating or encouraging any of the above behaviours

In the event of harassing behaviour by a participant, the organisers of the event reserve the right to take necessary measures to make the event a pleasant environment for all participants.

The organisers or persons authorised by them will take appropriate measures to ensure a disruption-free event. This will ensure that all participants can feel safe at the event and in its surroundings.

Scope

The GPN takes place in public spaces, in the rooms of the Hochschule für Gestaltung and the Centre for Art and Media, and is a public event.

We expect the participants of the event to adhere to these rules at all venues and in all activities related to the event.

We call on participants to follow these rules outside of the event as well.

Reporting violations

If you or anyone else feels unsafe or unwelcome, please report it as soon as possible.

Harassment and other violations of the Code of Conduct disrupt the event for everyone. We ask you to report to Team safeR if you notice any violations. By doing so, you will also help to improve the event.

In the event of a personal report, safeR will make a room for a confidential exchange available.

As soon as you are able, the safeR team will ask you to tell them what has happened. The team will handle it as respectfully as possible and you can bring a trusted person with you. You will not be asked to confront anyone. The safeR team will coordinate all steps with you.

The safeR team will support you in making contact with other organisations (internal or external to the event), provide mediators if necessary or otherwise help you to feel safe during the event. Your participation is important to us.
